Advantech Forms Strategic Alliance with QNX to Deliver Realtime OS Solutions for Embedded Platforms

Advantech to provide pre-integrated solutions for customers building medical devices, industrial automation systems, and other QNX-based embedded applications.

March 20, 2015 — Advantech, a leading provider of embedded platforms and services, and QNX Software Systems Limited, a subsidiary of BlackBerry Limited, today announced that Advantech has entered into an agreement with QNX to distribute pre-integrated solutions for customers building medical devices, industrial automation systems, transportation control systems, and other mission-critical embedded applications.

As a QNX distributor, Advantech will bundle the QNX® Neutrino® OS and QNX Momentics® Tool Suite with a broad range of Advantech platforms, including single board computers, industrial motherboards, computer-on-modules, and fanless embedded box PCs. The platforms will also support Advantech’s SUSI application programming interface (API), which allows applications to monitor system temperature and voltage, set alarms, conserve power, adjust video brightness, and perform a variety of other functions.

“The QNX Neutrino OS offers all of the building blocks to create modern embedded devices, from hard realtime performance and advanced security features to graphics frameworks, multimedia support, and mobile-device connectivity — all based on QNX Software Systems’ 35 years of experience in the embedded industry,” said Angus Hsu, director of Embedded Computing Sector, Advantech. “By offering pre-integrated support for QNX Neutrino across a full line of Advantech products, we can help developers in multiple industries get a jump-start on their embedded projects.”

“We’re excited to have Advantech on board as a distributor. They have a global footprint, a comprehensive product portfolio, proven QNX experience, and extensive industry partnerships — all the right ingredients to support our growing reach internationally,” said Tom Keyserlingk, director of global sales, QNX Software Systems.

Companies in the medical, industrial, automotive, networking, and mobile markets use the QNX Neutrino OS to build products with the highest levels of reliability, performance, and security. The OS has been certified to several international standards, including IEC 61508 SIL 3 (industrial safety), ISO 26262 ASIL 4 (automotive safety), and the POSIX PSE52 Realtime Controller profile (portability and determinism); it also complies with IEC 62304 (medical device software).
